Across Belgium, migrant women face significant challenges when attempting to participate in society fully. High unemployment, language barriers, non-recognition of qualifications, and lack of childcare options are just some of the obstacles that slow down or prevent their inclusion.
At ELISIA Europe, we believe every woman deserves access to opportunity, regardless of her country of origin.
What Challenges Do Migrant Women in Belgium Face?
Unemployment: Migrant women have a much higher jobless rate than Belgian-born women.
Language barriers: Lack of flexible and affordable language courses makes daily life harder.
Recognition of qualifications: Skills and diplomas from abroad are often not accepted.
Access to childcare: Many mothers are unable to study or work due to the limited availability of childcare support.
Discrimination: Migrant women face multiple forms of bias as women, migrants, and minorities.
Elisia Europe aligns its mission with the EU Action Plan on Integration and Inclusion 2021–2027. This strategic plan promotes fair access to:
Education and language learning
Employment and skills recognition
Health services and housing
Non-discrimination and equal opportunities
The Action Plan highlights the specific needs of migrant women and calls for stronger local efforts across EU member states, including Belgium.*
